Semester 2, 2007

Section One –Law (weighting: 40% of exam)

Question One
Advise as to the legal position for both LoveIT and HRSL arising from Chris and Bill’s miscommunication.

Question Two
In relation to the car accident, advise whether Emily Brock can claim the cost of repairs to her vehicle and her medical expenses from any of the following parties:  LoveIT, Budget Deliveries Ltd (BDL), or Johnny.


Section Two-Management (weighting: 40% of exam)

The miscommunication between Chris and Bill over outsourcing Human Resources is another example of the dysfunctional internal relationships at LoveIT.
a)        Using management theories from at least three weeks (selected from weeks 7-12), identify and explain to Bill three of the key factors that have contributed to dysfunctional relationships within LoveIT.
b)        Using management theories recommend three ways that Bill might improve relationships within LoveIT in the future.

Your answer should clearly demonstrate your understanding of each of the theories used and their relevance to key relationship issues at LoveIT.  


Section Three-Social Science (weighting: 20% of exam)

The CEO of Love IT Ltd. Australia is concerned about proposed legislative changes outlined in the Employment Relations (Flexible Working Hours) Amendment Bill. He is not familiar with the New Zealand employment context and wants a brief report on the implications of this legislation for the New Zealand arm of Love IT Ltd.

He asks you to advise him on all three of the issues below:
   1) The social and ideological ideas behind the proposed legislation,
   2) If the Flexible Working Hours Bill is passed what might be the implications for:
a) the firm and,
b) staff relationships
   3) A conflict resolution process that will comply with the Employment Relations Act 2000, which Love IT could follow to solve any problems that might emerge when staff request for changes in working hours. Explain why you have designed this conflict resolution process the way you have.
